IF proof was needed that Oscietra is not her famous mother Black Caviar we got it at Thursday’s Flemington jump outs as the filly put in a below par trial.
She ran a battling fourth in her 800m heat and we say below par because her previous three jump outs – two prior to her debut and one earlier this month – were more than handy.
Perhaps she needs a bit more time, maybe she had an off day.
Oscietra ran a solid third at her debut on New Year’s Day at Flemington as a $2.10 favourite.
HEAT 1 (48.19): HEATHERLY bounced in front of BIAN HARD, JUSTWANTCONTACT and FRATELLO EL CAPO. Heatherly was always comfortable and scored by about five over Bian Hard and KAEPERNICK flooded home late for third. Other: Charlevoix.
HEAT 2 (48.82): BELLA VELLA (2f, Moroney) eventually found the lead from MEMORY BANK and CARMEL BAY (2c, Hawkes) with OSCIETRA behind them. OUTBOARD MOTORS worked into it before the turn and travelled best on the line though Bella Vella just held them with Memory Bank third. Oscietra didn’t look happy a length away. Other: Crushed.
HEAT 3 (50.39): DIGRESS (2c, O’Shea) was best out but headed by ROCKETCOD. CASINO PRINCE/OLE ROSIE (Hasan) missed the start and rushed around them into second. VIVENDI (2f, Ellerton/Zahra) was next. Rocketcod led into the straight but RIVER JEWEL (2f, Hayes/Dabernig) cut the corner and finished better to win with Vivendi a close third. Other: Cover Girl.
HEAT 4 (48.69): SARASWATI ran clear early from DUPORTH/PATRICIA JOAN (Hawkes), MAJESTIC LASS three out and EXCLUSIVE LASS on the fence. Saraswati seemed to travel quite well and held Majestic Lass, also going strongly, and READY REVIEW running on late for third under riding. Other: Zourkhan.
HEAT 5 (50.47): FOUND OUT (2c, Ellerton/Zahra) shared the lead with THE CONSIGLIERE (2c, Hayes/Dabernig). A couple to WRAPSODY (2f, McKinnon) around REWARD THE CHASER (2g, Hayes/Dabernig). Wrapsody worked through to go with Found Out with nothing between them and The Consigliere under no pressure also. Other: Smokin Pierro.
HEAT 6 (50.48): GEORGICA (2c, Waller) ran to the lead from ELRAAZY (2f, Hayes/Dabernig) and WANTED DIVA (2f, Hayes/Dabernig) a couple away. Wanted Lady, under a bit more riding, picked up Elraazy near the line to win narrowly with GAMBESON (2c, O’Shea) running on, a bit green, into third. Others: Grammar Boy, Bequeathed.
HEAT 7 (50.62): DISTANT SKY took it up early from CYCLONE CHOUX (3f, Hawkes), STREETS OF DUBAI and LUCHADOR. With the inside run Luchador hit the front late and just denied Distant Sky while WHAT A SHOCK closed off well late after getting across heels. Other: Bianajeuney.
HEAT 8 (49.30): PAN JINLIAN (2f, Waterhouse/Bott) led three out around SENTRY (2g, O’Shea) and CHILLI PEPPER (2f, Ellerton/Zahra). ALKAASHEF was under pressure to improve around them. Chilli Pepper hit the lead on the turn but Pan Jinlian was given a hit and he finished best to win. Nice trial from STAR SEARCH closing in behind them. Other: Whiskey Queen.
HEAT 9 (50.78): DO IT FOR DOTTIE (2f, Ellerton/Zahra) held a clear lead over SMART MISSILE/MEDIA (Hawkes) and PETAIN (2g, O’Shea). HIBERNATOR (2c, Hayes/Dabernig) took off midrace around them. Do It For Dottie was held together and staved off ESPLANADE (2g, O’Shea) under riding on the inside and Petain not tested. Other: Shoreditch.
HEAT 10 (48.29): MISS PICKLE was first out and led EPINART (3g, Hawkes) improving between INTRIGO and BONOVSKY. Miss Pickle went for home on the turn and booted well clear of Bonovsky and Intrigo. Others: Wendover, Guangzhou.
HEAT 11 (49.02): CATCH A WAVE found the early lead but FREE SKY went up wide out with DIAMONDS ARE in the middle and CAFE SOCIETY just off them. They fanned wide on the turn and MR INDIVIDUAL took the run to hit the lead. Diamonds Are went with him to run second and Free Sky was travelling well in third. Other: Tai Chi Spirit.
