The actress joins Golshifteh Farahani in the all-female war drama.
Paris-based Elle Driver has taken world sales of Eva Husson’s drama Girls of the Sun ahead of Cannes.
The war epic stars Julie Delpy and Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Men Tell No Tales star Golshifteh Farahani.
It’s the follow-up to Husson’s controversial teen-sex tale Bang Gang, and reteams her with producer Didar Domheri of Paris-based Maneki Films.
Farahani plays Bahar, the leader of an all-female freedom resistance brigade trying to recapture their Kurdish village after it has been taken over by religious extremists. A former lawyer, she leads the titular Girls as she is trying to be reunited with her son.
Husson was inspired by the stories of Yazidi women who were captured by ISIS but escaped to become soldiers.
Delpy plays a war reporter embedded with the brigade who hears Bahar’s tale of capture and escape during the time she spends with them.
The war epic, set in 2014, focuses both on the battles and the sisterhood that develops between the two leads.
