Finecut expects a slew of more European deals and possible remake rights for the time-loop mystery that premiered at the Cannes Film Market last month.
South Korean mystery film A Day has sold to multiple territories following its market premiere at Cannes, Finecut announced on Wednesday.
The time-loop mystery drama about a father’s devastating and endless attempt to save his daughter has been acquired by key Asian buyers from China (BlueMedia Times); Japan (Klockworx); Malaysia and Brunei (GSC Movies Sdn BHD); the Philippines (Viva Communications); Singapore (mm2 Entertainmennt); Taiwan (Long Shong International); and Vietnam (Vietnam Media Corp. / BHD). The film has also sold to Brazil via Fenix Distribuidora de Filmes while in-flight rights wentVitality International.
“We received prompt reactions from the buyers after the market premiere of the picture,” said Finecut in a statement.
The feature debut by CHO Sun-ho stars esteemed actor Kim Myung-min (Deranged, Detective K 1 & 2) and indie film star Byun Yo-han (Will You Be There?, Madonna, Socialphobia).
“[A Day‘s] strong point is the perfect balance between action and melodramatic scenes, with a rhythm that retains thrills for the audience along every minute of the film, from the beginning to the end,” said Priscila Rosario of Fenix Distribuidora de Films. She added that the film is expected to be released in Brazil over 100 screens on October this year.
Finecut expects additional deals with European countries in the near future. There also have been “requests for numerous remake rights from several countries,” said Finecut in a statement.
Presented by CGV Arthouse and produced by Line Film, A Day‘s South Korean theatrical opening is set for June 15, and will be followed by its international releases in multiple territories.
