Casualty ward: Five more Titans go down

108kg halfback’s silky skills0:42

NRL: Who knew 108kg prop John Asiata had these silky skills?

Ryan James left the field in a moon boot.

THE Titans’ horror run with injury has worsened, with a further five players going down over the weekend.

Konrad Hurrell, Ryan James (both ankle), Chris Grevsmuhl (groin), Max King (hand) and Dale Copley (back) are all either in doubt or out for next week.

Rookie forward King is the hardest hit, ruled out for a month with a broken hand.

It was a horror night for the hardworking forward, who lasted just two minutes in his first stint before leaving the field for a concussion test, before suffering the fracture upon his return.

Mid-season recruit Grevsmuhl tweaked his groin early in the second half and will miss up to three weeks.

“I tried to weave around ‘Oatesy’ (Corey Oates) when a kick went through and just over-stretched and it pinged,” Grevsmuhl said.

Copley was forced off in the 60th minute and was in serious pain in the sheds after the game.

“Back injury, which he’s never had before – discs,” said coach Neil Henry. “He’s flat out walking.”

Captain James left the ground in a moon boot due to an ankle injury, but confirmed after the match he should be right for next week.

Likewise for Hurrell, who was a pre-game withdrawal due to an ankle complaint, while Kevin Proctor is also expected to be named for the coming round after missing two weeks with a hamstring issue.

Henry rated both Hurrell and Proctor “touch and go” for next week’s clash against the Sharks.

“We’ll see. With the long turnaround, hopefully we can welcome both of those guys back,” said Henry.

“And we’ve got Agnatius Paasi (shoulder) and Jarryd Hayne (ankle) a couple of weeks after that.”

Henry suggested Daniel Sarginson, who played in the unfamiliar right centre role on Friday night, would move to his favoured left centre position to replace Copley.

The Titans have by far the biggest injury toll in the NRL, with Pat Politoni (broken arm), John Olive (pectoral), Will Zillman (calf), Nathaniel Peteru (foot), Paasi and Hayne all injured.

Bulldogs: No major injuries.

Rabbitohs: Sam Burgess (shoulder charge) is facing a two week suspension regardless of plea. Prop George Burgess was lucky to avoid a ban for lashing out at Canterbury prop Aiden Tolman with two ugly forearms.

Knights: Jamie Buhrer (fractured foot) was a pre-game withdrawal after going down in the final training session. Coach Nathan Brown also cast doubt over the playing future of hooker Rory Kostjasyn. Speaking post-match, Brown said Kostjasyn was no certainty to play again after suffering a severe throat injury in the pre-season.

Roosters: Bench forward Ryan Matterson (ankle) suffered a syndesmosis injury and is expected to miss plenty of footy.

Broncos: It was a tough night for Tevita Pangai Jr, who suffered suffered a broken finger and medial ligament injury. Jordan Kahu succumbed late to a groin injury.

Titans: Max King (broken hand) will miss a month. Chris Grevsmuhl (groin) will miss up to three weeks. The timeframe on Dale Copley (back) is unknown, while Ryan James and Konrad Hurrell (both ankle) should be right for next week.

Storm: Five-eighth Ryley Jacks suffered a fractured cheekbone. In better news, Jesse Bromwich, Cheyse Blair (both back) and Cameron Munster (broken jaw) made successful comebacks and came through unscathed.

Sea Eagles: No major injuries.

Panthers: Bryce Cartwright (ankle) again missed the cut.

Sharks: Gerard Beale (hamstring) was ruled out pre-game.
