The youth media brand has also ordered a slate of original programming that includes unscripted food and travel series ‘Jeremiah Bullfrog Forks It!’
Complex Networks, the male-focused youth media brand owned by Verizon and Hearst, on Thursday unveiled a new slate of programming and renewed one of its most high-profile projects.
The company has given a two-season renewal to Peter Berg’s QB1: Beyond the Lights, which follows the country’s top high school quarterbacks during their senior-year season. The first season of QB1 premiered earlier this year on go90, Verizon’s free, ad-supported streaming app. QB1 tells the real-life stories that inspired Berg’s Friday Night Lights.
“It’s incredible to be able to share in the journey of these elite athletes as they stand on the precipice of their careers and take those final steps of high school to begin the next phase of realizing their dreams,” said Berg, who executive produces alongside Matt Goldberg, Brandon Carroll and Steve Clarkson. “We’re looking forward to sharing the stories of the next generation of athletes in the coming seasons.”
QB1 is co-executive produced by Peter Richardson for Film 45 and Justin Killion and Melanie Moreau for Complex.
In addition to renewing QB1, Complex has also greenlighted a number of new shows for go90 as well as its online destinations, including RatedRed.com. Among them is Jeremiah Bullfrog Forks It!, which will follow chef Jeremiah Bullfrog as he travels the country and puts his spin on local cuisine. Premiering on Rated Red’s go90 channel in May, the series produced by Michael Hoff, Alex Hoff and Rena Ferrick of Hoff Productions, and Killion and Moreau for Complex.
Other new shows include Complex Closets, where celebrities show off their sneaker collections; The Neighborhood in which well-known people return to the places where they got their start; and Throttle Rockets in which mechanics turn humble scooters into assault vehicles built for sand and hunting rigs.
