Walden Media joins CBS Films to co-finance and co-develop the adaptation of the children’s classic.
Brother-and-sister duo Jack and Kate Angelo have been tapped to pen Corduroy, CBS Films’ adaptation of the classic Don Freeman children’s book.
At the same time, Walden Media has come aboard to co-finance and co-develop the project, which has Tim Story, helmer of the Fantastic Four and Ride Along movies, set to direct and produce.
The book tells of a teddy bear who, over the course of one night in a closed department store, goes on an adventure to find his lost button so that he can find the home and the friend that he has always wanted.
It was first published in 1968 at the height of the civil rights era, and broke ground by having an African-American girl and her mother comprise the home the bear seeks to join.
Jack Angelo made a name for himself selling spec scripts and pitches with his writing partner Sam Brown, who passed away in 2012. He also wrote and directed the Hallmark Channel movie The Christmas Spirit.
Kate Angelo was a writer-producer on TV shows such as The Bernie Mac Show, Will & Grace and What About Brian? She also worked with Story on Nicki, a Freeform pilot about the life of singer Nicki Minaj.
The siblings have been looking to team up for a while and leaped at the chance to tackle a book that was a childhood favorite to both.
Jack Angelo is repped by UTA and Fourth Wall Management. Kate Angelo is repped by UTA.
Alex Ginno is overseeing the project for CBS Films. Naia Cucukov will shepherd the project for Walden.
