In a shock revelation, Davido has come out accusing his label Sony Music of trying to change his sound. While sharing a video clip of Omarion bopping to Davido’s If, the Nigerian expressed his disappointment at his label for meddling with his creative process.
“The bro omarion feeling da ‘IF’ vibes!” [sic] he started off his caption. Then he went on to criticism his label by insinuating that they didn’t think his sound would sell in the US. “All last year , they tried to change my sound .. saying staying true to my culture wouldn’t work for me outside Africa! This year I fought and pleaded for ‘them’ to allow me make the music I know how to make and now see what’s happened!! MUSIC AINT GOT A LANGUAGE !! NOW I GOT THE BIGGEST SONG IN AFRICA ONCE AGAIN! THANK TO JAH!!” [sic]
If is currently doing well on Nigerian charts and Omarion’s co-sign is an indication that the international community is taking note too. It’s not clear what next steps Sony will take to address this.
