SAN FRANCISCO, April 14, (THEWILL) – The Edo State Governorship Election Petitions tribunal has upheld the election of Mr. Godwin Obaseki of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as winner of the September 28 poll by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
The tribunal struck out the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, who challenged the declaration of Obaseki as winner of the election said to have been marred by widespread irregularities.
In a two-hour ruling read by the Chairman of the three-man panel, Justice Ahmed Badamasi, the tribunal upheld the election of Obaseki as Governor of the South-South state.
This pronouncement immediately sparked wild jubilations amongst supporters of Obaseki and the APC.
