The Edo State governorship election tribunal will today deliver its judgement in the suit filed by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Osagie Ize Iyamu, in the September 28, 2016 governorship election, challenging the declaration of Governor Godwin Obaseki as winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The first petitioner Osagie Ize Iyamu, and the first respondent Godwin Obaseki as well as the counsel to INEC, are absent at the tribunal.
The three man tribunal is headed by Justice Ahmed Badamasi.
The petition was filed on the October 19, 2016 with the first petitioner asking to be declared winner, having scored the highest number of lawful votes cast.
However, the petitioners are challenging the results in 16 out of the 18 Local Government Areas of the state.
