IN a classic case of a goalkeeper forgetting his mandate, Perth Glory stopper Liam Reddy has produced one of the blunders of the A-League season against Melbourne City last night.

The two teams produced one of the matches of the season, Glory claiming a 5-4 win, but it was Reddy’s attempt to take on the entire Melbourne City team that has everyone talking.

Up 5-3, Reddy collected the ball and began his run from the box, losing it mid-pitch as bemused teammates stood flat-footed.

It was collected by a teammate, who duly turned it over, leaving the gloveman stranded. The ball ended in the path of City midfielder Nick Fitzgerald, who made no mistake from distance.

Fox Sports commentator Simon Hill called the play “utterly crazy” and it had many on Twitter asking if Reddy was drunk and comparing him to a number of keepers famous for blunders, including Bayern and Germany shot-stopper Manuel Neuer and retired Colombian ‘sweeper keeper’ Rene Higuita.

Cue the Benny Hill music.
