In a notice issued by the Commission during the weekend by its lawyer, Wole Ayeni, in Akure, activities heralding the local government election were spelt out.

Ayeni said the publication of the notice was in fulfilment of the requirements of the law as provided in Section 30 (1) of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended), noting that the conduct of all primaries by political parties will begin on August 28 and end by September 6.

Collection of candidates’ lists with Form CF 001 Affidavit/personal particulars of candidates and Form CF 002 for the chairmanship and councillorship election would commence on August 28 and end on September 6.

Political parties are expected to commence campaigns for the election on August 23, 2018, while all collected forms, including forms CF 001 and CF 002 are expected to be submitted on September 17 at the ODIEC office.

Meanwhile, collection of forms for the elections by political parties to fill in names of their candidates would begin on September 24 and end on September 28.

While publication of personal particulars of candidates (CF001) ends on September 24, verification of candidates will commence by October 2018 and parties can replace/withdraw their candidates on before October 9, 2018.

Publication of personal particulars (CF001) of substituted candidate(s) is slated for October 16 and closing date for the submission of nomination forms by political parties is October 17.

The list of validated candidates will be published between October 18 and 19 and the voter register to be used for the December poll will be displayed at ward/collation centres from October 22 to October 25. The notice for the election will be published from October 30 to November 2, 2018.

The list of names of party agents is expected to reach ODIEC before November 8, while the list of ad hoc staff for the election at area offices/LG will be published between November 9 and November 22, 2018.

The commission fixed the last day of campaigns for November 29, which is 24 hours to the day of the election. The poll is expected to hold in the 18 LGAs of the state.
