Kendall Jenner can’t seem to catch a break.
The model’s latest mishap comes in the form of her Vogue India’s 10th anniversary cover, which was unveiled on Wednesday. Jenner, clad in a lace YSL dress, was photographed by Mario Testino in Jaipur, India. Testino also guest edited the issue — his 12th “Vogue takeover,” according to an Instagram post.
The cover, which was posted on Vogue India’s Instagram, caused frustration among followers. One user @mkpng wrote, “What the heeeeeey? Looks like there are not enough Indian models to celebrate your anniversary. Pity,” while user @takecarejules asked, “seriously? on such an important cover, you put the same overhyped non-indian model. what’s the point of vogue india if you’re not even gonna celebrate indian people.”
Perhaps aware of the backlash, Jenner has yet to post the cover on her personal Instagram account. The model, who has previously covered Vogue U.S., Japan, Spain, Australia and Germany, did post her recent Harper’s Bazaar‘s 150th anniversary cover, however. Meanwhile, fellow model Gigi Hadid’s Vogue Arabia cover was criticized by some for cultural appropriation.
Jenner has had a rough few weeks of bad publicity. Just last week, the model faced backlash for promoting the disastrous Fyre Festival. While Bella Hadid, one of the models hired to promote the festival, issued a statement about the chaos, Jenner has remained silent.
Jenner has also stayed mum about her controversial Pepsi ad, which caused outrage among social media users for capitalizing on and trivializing recent social and political issues. Questions about the Pepsi ad were even off-limits when she had a few interviews lined up during weekend one of Coachella, where she hosted a party with Bumble.
