A TRIO of huge defensive plays from Thon Maker has thrust the Aussie into the spotlight and helped Milwaukee Bucks upset Toronto Raptors in Game 1 of the NBA playoffs.

Maker started the game and only had four points, but a trio of blocks helped ignite the Bucks.

One particularly nasty effort denied Toronto’s game-high scorer Demar DeRozan at the rim and sent the Bucks on the fast break, with superstar Giannis Antetokounmo bringing the hammer down on the Raptors with the and-1 slam.

It also sent Twitter into a spin, with plenty of love for the athletic seven-footer who was born in what is now South Sudan, but grew up in Perth and Sydney.

The No.10 draft pick helped the east’s sixth-seeded Bucks scorched past the Raptors on their home floor, 97-83 to take Game 1.
