Thousands Protest At National Assembly Over Ndume’s Suspension

NASS, 2017 Budget, House of Representatives, SenateThousands of protesters have besieged the National Assembly in Abuja, demanding the immediate reinstatement of the suspended Senator representing Borno south in the Senate, Senator Ali Ndume.

The protesters reportedly arrived at the National Assembly on Tuesday morning, with placards bearing inscriptions criticising the decision by the Senate to suspend Senator Ndume.

The lawmakers last week voted to suspend Senator Ndume for masterminding the investigations into allegations of forgery against the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, and a Senator from Kogi State, Dino Melaye.

The decision to suspend Ndume was taken after the Senate Committee on Ethics absolved Dr Saraki of the allegations of importing a Range Rover SUV, without paying appropriate import duty, and attempting to clear the vehicle with forged papers.

Senator Melaye was also questioned over the allegation of claiming to have graduated from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
