Two Fire Incidents Destroy Properties In Yenagoa

Two Fire Incidents Destroy Properties In YenagoaTwo separate fire incidents that occurred between Friday and Saturday have destroyed properties worth millions of Naira in Yenagoa.

The first incident happened on Friday night at Amarata, a Yenagoa suburb, while the second took place on Saturday in Ovom, also a suburb of the Bayelsa State capital.

A resident of Ovom, Joy Onuh, who revealed that the fire started from a locked room, said: “We do not know how the fire started and we never knew it would spread because we thought it was just an ordinary smoke, then it became serious.

“We appreciate the efforts of the State Fire Service in putting out the fire, though they arrived late”.

Recounting her losses, one of the affected residents, Jully Bobby, said all her belongings were lost in the fire.

At Imgbi Road in Amarata, where a car and some shops were destroyed, witnesses said the fire started from the car which was loaded with fuel.

“It would have been a disaster if not for the help of the State Fire Service, the car was fully loaded with fuel. I commend the efforts of the fire fighters,” a witness said.

The Station Driver, Bayelsa Fire Service Command, Mr Prince Ogun, urged the people to desist from engaging in activities that are capable of causing fire incidents.

“The one at Imgbi Road was in the night, Friday, about 8:00pm. We went there with our firefighting personnel and we were able to put out the fire.

“In fact, the two incidents were shocking, many houses were burnt but no life was lost. I am advising members of the public against the use of candle and to desist from illegal bunkering, to avoid fire incidents,” Ogun said.
